Carlo Ancelotti has this week provided an update on goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and insists that he has every faith in the 25-year-old shot-stopper.

England’s number one has come under fire recently for some questionable moments in goal. There have been suggestions that Ancelotti would be searching for a new goalkeeper to compete for the number one spot, but the Italian has been quick to shut those rumours down.

As reported by Sky Sports, the Everton boss said: ”I read that I’m looking for a goalkeeper, this is not true. I have a great goalkeeper, who is the goalkeeper of the national team.”

Ancelotti is clearly confident that Pickford is the right goalkeeper to take Everton forward. The Toffees have been going through a difficult recent period and a number of their key men have had their abilities and characters questioned.

There has been a recent upturn in performances since the arrival of the former Chelsea boss and fans will be hoping that it is the beginning of a new and successful era. It is important to remember that Pickford is only 25, which is still relatively young for a goalkeeper.

His decision making is likely to improve in the coming years and no one can deny his shot-stopping ability. The former Sunderland keeper just needs to become a little bit more consistent to maintain his reputation as one of the country’s best goalkeepers.

Signing a new goalkeeper may have proven to be a good decision. It might have pushed Everton’s current number one to the next level. However, it could just as easily have caused dressing room angst that the club could do without.
