Italian outlet La Repubblica have claimed that Carlo Ancelotti has his ‘suitcase packed’ ahead of travelling to London to take over at Arsenal, following his Napoli sacking and amid reported interest from Everton.
Ancelotti, 60, was surprisingly sacked by Napoli on Tuesday evening just moments after watching his side dispatch Belgian side Genk with ease. The 4-0 win saw Napoli qualify for a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
It is believed Gennaro Gattuso is set to replace Ancelotti, meanwhile the former Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain manager is being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League. Sky Sports claim Everton have opened talks.
The report also states that Arsenal are interested, and it now appears that Ancelotti has chosen to join Arsenal over The Toffees. The Gunners remain in European competition, while Everton sit in a lowly 14th place.
TBR’s view – Has Ancelotti made the right choice in Arsenal?
If we look at Ancelotti’s CV, it includes spells at the biggest clubs in Europe – including Juventus, Real Madrid, Milan and plenty more. A move to Everton would be somewhat out of place with the star-studded sides he has previously managed.
Ancelotti needs to get the defence right at Arsenal, but other than that, the Gunners are not far off being a side capable of challenging for the top six – and getting there despite a dismal start to the campaign.
