Newcastle United have received a timely transfer boost with the Daily Mail reporting that Callum Wilson has earmarked St James’ Park as his preferred destination this summer.
The Magpies desperately need to strengthen their striker options during this window. Their top goalscorer ended last season with just six league goals. And, as noted by the Mail, Dwight Gayle is set to be sidelined for some time due to injury.

But perhaps Steve Bruce may soon have something to smile about.
The Daily Mail reports that developments over the Magpies’ bid to sign Wilson are expected in the next 48 hours.
And, crucially, the Mail claims that a move to Newcastle is the 28-year-old’s preferred option.

It does appear that there are still significant hurdles to clear. The Mail notes that Bournemouth are yet to receive an official offer for Wilson – although it is suggested that one is incoming.
It remains to be seen if it meets the Cherries’ demands. The Daily Express reported earlier this summer that Wilson will cost £20 million.
TBR View: Wilson move is gamble worth taking for Magpies
Wilson’s record in the Premier League will provide reason for encouragement for Newcastle fans. He has scored 22 league goals across the last two seasons.
He has previously had injury issues. But they appear to be behind him. And thus, a £20 million move definitely appears to be worth the gamble for Bruce’s men.
They cannot allow the window to shut without a new striker arriving. And for £20 million, they will do well to sign a better player than Wilson.
