Report: Brooke Norton-Cuffy plays as a centre-back in Arsenal training ahead of Bournemouth clash
The Gunners have started the new Premier League season in brilliant fashion. They picked up an impressive victory away at Crystal Palace on the opening day before securing an excellent win against Leicester last weekend.
Now, Mikel Arteta is keen to make it three wins in three, and predicting the Arsenal starting XI for the game tomorrow is fairly easy as the Gunners will likely go with an unchanged lineup. Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira will be in the squad as well for the first time this season, which is a boost.
That means it’s unlikely that any player from the academy will be called up to the squad, but it was really interesting to see Norton-Cuffy feature in first-team training this week – but not in his natural position.
Brooke Norton-Cuffy plays in a new position in Arsenal training
Norton-Cuffy spent the second half of last season on loan at Lincoln City, where he played in his natural right-back position. The teenager was absolutely ‘outstanding‘ there and earned rave reviews from everyone who watched him.
He is still expected to head out for another spell on loan this summer. Until that happens, it looks like Arteta is keen to take a closer look at him in training.
Football London reveal that the London-born Englishman was called up to the first-team training session this week, and Arteta decided to use him as a centre-half – a position he has played in on just four occasions in his entire career.
Norton-Cuffy was reportedly seen next to Gabriel Magalhaes in the heart of the defence, while Ben White continued at right-back.

Arsenal make the trip to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth tomorrow in what could be a tricky game.
It’s never easy facing a newly promoted team in their own backyard, but the Gunners have looked really good in both their games this season, and Arteta will fancy his side’s chances of picking up all three points again.
Norton-Cuffy is a very exciting talent and, he has a bright future at Arsenal. However, with Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Cedric Soares all available, it’s extremely unlikely that he’ll be in the squad tomorrow.
A loan move looks likely for Norton-Cuffy this season and he seems excited about it. After signing a new contract this month, he was asked to send a message to Arsenal fans.
He simply said: “Watch this season!”
