Championship side Bristol City are reportedly set to make a move to try sign Aston Villa’s Henri Lansbury.

According to the Mirror, Villa have made the £40,000-a-week midfielder available to sign on loan this month.

It is understood that the 30-year-old is prepared to force his exit from Villa Park and leave on a permanent basis or on a loan that includes a permanent clause.

The report states that Bristol City are keen on trying to sign him.

Lansbury has been omitted from Dean Smith’s Premier League squad this season, which is why his only appearances have come in the Carabao Cup.

The central midfielder started all three matches in the League Cup a few months ago, but hasn’t had any first-team action since and desperately needs a transfer to start playing agin.

TBR’s View:

With Lansbury completely frozen out of the Villa squad, allowing his departure during the little time rest of the January transfer window makes perfect sense.

If he can get back to full fitness, then he’s a talented midfielder that could make a big difference in the Championship for a Bristol City side that are just outside of the play-off positions trying to force their way into the promotion picture.

He’s a Championship veteran that has made 258 appearances in England’s second-tier and can be a real goalscoring threat from midfield.
