Report: 'Brilliant' Tottenham player worried about his future under Conte, 'controversial' move on the cards

Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon has been linked with a summer move over the past few months.

In March, journalist Gerard Romero claimed on Twitch that Reguilon’s agents have offered his services to Barcelona.

Fabrizio Romano has also commented on the Blaugrana’s reported interest in the Tottenham man.

In addition, Real Madrid apparently have a 40m euro (£33.5million) buy-back clause for Reguilon.

Now, it looks as though the player himself is considering a return to Spain.

According to The Mirror, Reguilon fears for his future at Tottenham under Antonio Conte.

He has struggled to hold down a place under Conte despite the Tottenham boss favouring the use of wing-backs.

Ryan Sessegnon has established himself on the left and Matt Doherty was even starting ahead of Reguilon on occasion.

The 25-year-old has made 67 appearances for Spurs over two seasons, including 22 Premier League starts this term.

However, his chances have become fewer in recent months, with a lot more time spent on the bench.

Reguilon hasn’t made the Tottenham squad for their last two Premier League games, due to injury.

The Mirror describes the prospect of a move to Barca as ‘controversial’ for the former Real Madrid man due to the rivalry between Spain’s big two clubs.

Reguilon has been a good player for Spurs – Micah Richards once labelled him “brilliant“.

However, it remains to be seen what Conte thinks of his long-term chances.

Selling him would raise valuable funds for Conte to invest in his own players.

In addition, if the player himself actively fancied a return to La Liga, then it’d be best to let him go.

Spurs are now in a position where they could arguably accept a major offer for Reguilon.

Sessegnon recently enjoyed his best run yet in the side, and Doherty can also fill in there.
