Leeds United v Leicester City - Premier League

Report: 'Brilliant' Leeds star has been offered to Europa League side

A report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Rodrigo has been offered to Barcelona as the Leeds United star sets his sights on more game-time.

Barca are looking to sign a new striker in the final days of the January transfer window. Of course, the club were rocked by Sergio Aguero’s retirement earlier this season.

They have pursued Alvaro Morata. But they are now looking at other potential options. And one of those seemingly on their radar is Rodrigo.

Mundo Deportivo reports that the 30-year-old has been offered to the Catalan giants. And it is suggested that he is keen to secure a more prominent role than the one he currently has at Elland Road. He is looking to force his way into Luis Enrique’s Spain squad for the World Cup.

Rodrigo has divided opinion amongst the Leeds fans during his time at Elland Road. There is little question that he has not quite lived up to expectations having become the club’s record signing following promotion.

That is not all down to the former Valencia man by any means. Jermaine Beckford lauded his ‘brilliant‘ form earlier this season.

Few would have predicted just how impressive Patrick Bamford would prove to be last year. And with that, Rodrigo has tended to play as a number 10.

Leeds surely not going to let Rodrigo leave amid Barcelona reports

Some Leeds fans would be open to the idea of the club considering big offers for Rodrigo. Of course, the size of that group may be diminishing as the transfer window deadline looms.

But the idea that he is not happy with his role at Leeds looks questionable. He has not been involved in the last few weeks due to injury.

He played 90 minutes against Newcastle. And he does look to be first-choice for the number 10 position in Bielsa’s squad.

Obviously, he may struggle to turn down the chance to join Barca should they come calling. But he also looks to be a player who remains absolutely determined to be a success at Leeds.
