Report: Brighton braced for Tottenham approach for Graham Potter
Brighton are becoming concerned that Tottenham Hotspur making another approach for Graham Potter is inevitable, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (10/10; page 71).
Potter was one of the managers Spurs considered before they appointed Nuno Espirito Santo.
Unfortunately, Nuno has not yet been able to silence all of his doubters. And it would appear that he finds himself in a precarious situation.
The Sunday Mirror (10/10; page 71) reports that Nuno is on thin ice. And it is claimed that Daniel Levy is prepared to pay compensation to land Potter.
The report suggests that Brighton meanwhile, believe that an approach in the coming months is inevitable.
They are hoping to price Spurs out of the market. It is claimed that they will dig their heels in and demand £15 million for Potter.
Tottenham will have to be prepared to spend should they let Nuno go amid Potter links
One of the problems Tottenham must consider should they decide to part company with Nuno is who replaces him.
The club seemed to have enough problems in the summer finding a manager. And that was at a time when theoretically, it should be easier to make an appointment.
So replacing Nuno mid-season would not be easy.
With that in mind, Tottenham will surely have to be prepared to spend money on a successor anyway.
Admittedly, £15 million for a manager is a lot of money. But Potter’s stock is high.
And if Levy believes that Potter is the man to emulate Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure, paying what Brighton want is surely a no-brainer.
