Eurosport have claimed that Brendan Rodgers is considering a January move to raid Celtic and lure Ryan Christie to Leicester City – with the Scottish playmaker’s contract situation becoming more of an issue at Parkhead.
Christie, 25, has been on fire for Celtic over the past couple of seasons since breaking into the side under Rodgers. However, he has been dropped for the last couple of matches – and his contract is about to enter its last 18 months.
In just 119 appearances in all competitions for Celtic, Christie has scored an impressive 36 goals from midfield – and laid on the same amount in assists. Indeed, the Scotland star is showing proper consistency, and the quality to shine in England.
Rodgers has been linked with signing Celtic players on numerous occasions and the latest report suggests he might take advantage of Christie’s contract situation. It remains to be seen how much Leicester would have to pay to get their man.
TBR’s view – Christie ready-made for the Premier League scene
Work rate, goals, assists, creativity and passion, the versatile midfielder has it all. He can also play in central midfield, attacking midfield or cutting in from the flanks. In a free-flowing Leicester side, he could shine for the Foxes.
Would he start? James Maddison is back in form, Youri Tielemans has been excellent from a deeper role – while Harvey Barnes, Cengiz Under and Ayoze Perez are all playing well at this moment in time. Christie would be good, but game time is an issue.
