Football website 90Min have claimed that Leicester City are winning the race to sign Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer but face stern competition from the likes of Manchester City, Everton and other European sides.
Ajer, 22, joined Celtic in the summer of 2016 and the defender has gone on to shine for the Hoops, clocking up 129 appearances and winning three Scottish Premiership titles
The central defender’s agent told The Daily Record that Ajer will leave Celtic this summer, with the £500,000 (Record) signing keen to jump onto the next level. But a reunion with Rodgers could well be on the cards.
Indeed, Leicester are said to be winning the race despite interest from City, Everton and Wolves, while AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are also keen. He has a contract at Celtic until the summer of 2022.
TBR’s view – Ajer should remain at Celtic for another season
Like Odsonne Edouard, Ajer is still only 22 years of age and with the chance to achieve history with Celtic, the defender should continue to develop and help Celtic achieve 10 in a row.
Certainly, Ajer is one of Celtic’s best players and is a regular under Neil Lennon. Giving him another 40-50 games next season will only aid his development and make him even more ready for Premier League football.
Not only that, but Ajer can be a part of the club’s history. One more season at Celtic is a no-brainer.
