Report: Borussia Dortmund ready to cash in on Julian Brandt, Arsenal interested
German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten – as per Fussball Transfers – claim Borussia Dortmund are ready to cash in on eight players, and Arsenal want one of them. Midfielder Julian Brandt’s name appears on the list – as does Arsenal’s. Arsenal linked ace Brandt will be allowed to go, if the price is right.
Brandt, 25, has been somewhat inconsistent during his time at Dortmund. Joining the Bundesliga giants from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2019, he has since clocked up an impressive 87 appearances in all competitions. Dropping deeper into midfield, his stats are not as impressive.
But Brandt still remains a top, top player. Naturally a 10, he can play deeper in midfield or on either flank. A 35-time Germany international, Dortmund are willing to cash in on the playmaker – one they bought for £21.5million (ESPN). The report states that Arsenal are interested – having made an enquiry in January.
Brandt could be ideal if Odegaard leaves Arsenal this summer
Martin Odegaard is likely to return to Real Madrid. With Carlo Ancelotti returning to the Santiago Bernabeu, he is likely to at least want to see all of his options in training before making a decision. At least initially, then, Odegaard will surely go back to Real Madrid to begin with this summer.
Arsenal might not want to wait that long. They will need to replace the Norwegian, while also needing a midfielder alongside Thomas Partey. So, Brandt would surely be perfect because he can operate in both positions – deeper in midfield but also as a playmaker. He could be quite cheap.
