Report: Bordeaux plot deadline-beating swoop for Arsenal outcast Mohamed Elneny

Having already signed Laurent Koscielny from Arsenal this summer, Bordeaux are ready to return to North London for another player. According to a report by Foot Mercato, Bordeaux want to sign Mohamed Elneny before the end of the European window.

Elneny has not played in Arsenal’s opening three games of the season and has been frozen out by Unai Emery. The Gunners are heading in a new direction and Elneny does not feature in Emery’s plans.

The likes of Joe Willock, Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Dani Ceballos are all preferred to Elneny. After three years and 89 appearances, the Egypt international could be on his way out.

He only managed 17 outings last season and just eight in the Premier League. Bordeaux can offer Elneny an escape route and the chance to play Ligue 1 football. This could appeal to the 27-year-old at a vital stage of his career.

TBR’s view

This would be a good move for Elneny, who needs to reignite his stalling career in a new environment. Having missed out on a summer move to another English club, he needs to use the final few days of the European window to force a move.

Bordeaux’s interest offers him an interesting project in the French top-flight. He can try to get Bordeaux back towards the top of Ligue 1, linking up with former Gunners team-mate Koscielny at the same time.
