Report: Bordeaux interested in Arsenal outcast Mohamed Elneny

Bordeaux could offer Mohamed Elneny a route to France. According to The Times, Bordeaux have approached Arsenal over a move for the midfielder.

Elneny, who currently earns £55k-per-week could finally be on his way out of Arsenal. Last summer, he was reportedly offered to Crystal Palace and Fulham but neither club could afford his wages.

Arsenal are not interested in keeping the 26-year-old, who only played 17 games last season. He now has a total of 89 Arsenal games to his name but he only started five Premier League matches in 2018/19.

Elneny faces an uncertain future ahead of the 2019/20 season. The Egypt international has not yet joined up with his team-mates after the AFCON, which ended in disappointment on home soil.

But he might not need to return to Arsenal for pre-season training. Bordeaux have made an approach for the holding midfielder and he could be on his way to France this summer.

TBR’s view

This is probably a good move for Elneny, who is not getting a look-in with Granit Xhaka, Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira among the players preferred to him.

Most of Elneny’s games came in the cup competitions. But at this stage of his career, he needs to find an environment where he will play regularly. Bordeaux can offer that as they plan to compete for the European qualifying spots in Ligue 1.
