Birmingham City are still hoping to bring Scott Hogan back to the club on a permanent basis, with Birmingham Live reporting that the Blues have held talks with Aston Villa over a potential move.
It would be no surprise to see Hogan leave Villa Park before the window closes. The Republic of Ireland international has not played for the Villans since they were in the Championship.
He spent the latter half of last season on loan with Birmingham. Hogan scored seven goals in 17 Championship appearances for the club.
The Blues are now under management in Aitor Karanka. However, Birmingham Live reports that they remain keen on a fresh move for Hogan.
And the report notes that talks have been held between the two clubs.
TBR View: Deal makes sense for all parties
It would be a big surprise if Hogan played for Villa again. It was perhaps telling that he was not involved at all in their Carabao Cup tie with Burton Albion on Tuesday.
Birmingham meanwhile, desperately need to sign a new striker to provide support for Lukas Jutkiewicz.
Wages may potentially prove an issue for Karanka’s men. Spotrac shows that he earns £17,500-a-week at Villa Park. But it makes sense for all parties if an agreement can be reached.
Even if Villa have to subsidise some of his wages, they may welcome the small boost to their budget heading into the final weeks of the window.
And after a number of loan spells, Hogan can find a permanent home amongst familiar surroundings.
