Birmingham City have taken Youssouf Mulumbu on trial with the midfielder still searching for a new club after leaving Celtic last summer, according to a report from Birmingham Live.
Mulumbu did not have the best time at Parkhead. He had proved to be an inspired signing for Kilmarnock during Steve Clarke’s time in charge at Rugby Park.
However, he left Celtic last summer having made just three first appearances for the Hoops. In fact, he spent a large portion of his year in Glasgow back on loan with Killie.
He has been without a club since leaving the Bhoys. But it appears that that may soon be about to change.
Birmingham Live reports that Pep Clotet’s men are looking at the 33-year-old. He played for the Blues’ under-23s in their 1-1 draw with Crewe on Monday.
The report notes that Birmingham are dealing with a shortage of options in the middle of the park. So it would appear that Mulumbu will have every opportunity to earn a short-term deal at St Andrew’s.
TBR View – Celtic have not rued releasing Mulumbu
It appeared to be a good piece of business for Celtic to sign Mulumbu. He was excellent during his first spell with Kilmarnock.
However, Celtic have not exactly been made to rue not keeping the midfielder. Neil Lennon’s men are on course to win another league title this term. And another domestic treble is certainly not beyond them.
