Report: Big-name manager has turned down Newcastle approach
Newcastle United have already been turned down by a big-name manager, with reports suggesting they were left baffled by the approach from the PIF Group.
The Independent reports that Mehrdad Ghodoussi has already got involved in the recruitment process for a new manager. However, it is claimed in the report that a ‘big name’ was already approached but they immediately turned down the chance to move to St James’ Park.
There is no mention of who that big name is. But Newcastle are thought to be scouring the market for the best name possible to come in and replace Steve Bruce in the Northeast.
Names like Steven Gerrard and Roberto Martinez are among those being linked with the job. Yesterday’s loss to Tottenham is likely to accelerate the process by PIF, Amanda Staveley and Ghodoussi.
The report from the Independent claims Ghodoussi is excited by the prospect of getting involved in the transfer and wheeling dealing part of football. However, it seems his first dip into that world has not gone to plan.
TBR’s View: Director of Football vital for Newcastle in manager search
If this report serves as anything, it shows that it’s vital Newcastle get someone in between who can get on top of these sorts of issue.
It’s vital that the Magpies get the right man through the door. And while Ghodoussi’s enthusiasm is admirable, the PIF Group will need someone in the mix who can negotiate these sorts of deals.
Hopefully for Newcastle fans, they can get a DoF in the door ASAP.
