Report: Benitez has chance to sign 'very fast' £20m star this summer and Everton haven't ruled it out
Everton have been offered the chance to sign Matheus Nunes from Sporting Lisbon, although they are yet to make a decision over whether to make a bid, the Daily Express report.
Everton have been heavily linked with Nunes throughout the summer transfer window so far, but it is claimed that this may be as a ploy to drive up interest in the attacking midfielder, who is valued at £20 million (Daily Mail).
Everton have not totally ruled out bidding for Nunes, but that decision is set to be made by new boss Rafael Benitez.
In terms of what Nunes could offer Everton, he would increase the technical proficiency of their midfielders.
The Toffees already have some hardened battlers like Tom Davies and Allan who are able to play in the middle of the pitch.
But they could, perhaps, benefit from having an injection of creativity from deeper areas.
Nunes is renowned as one of the best players on the ball in Portugal, with his former teammate Goncalo Santos hailing him in the Liverpool Echo.
“It’s unbelievable when he has the ball at his feet. Nobody can catch him; it’s impossible because he’s too fast,” he said to the Liverpool Echo.
“Matheus is a box-to-box player. He’s not so strong like midfielders in the Premier League but he’s very fast. He’s very good with the ball because he is a Brazilian boy. They know how to play with the ball.”
Those comments will surely excite Everton fans about the potential deal.
But whether Benitez will take up the offer of being able to sign the midfielder remains to be seen.
