New Everton boss Rafael Benitez has apparently already held talks with Richarlison and decided that letting him go to the Olympics is the best move, the Athletic report.

Richarlison takes great pride in representing Brazil, but his inclusion in their Olympic squad means that he could miss the start of the season.

That is obviously a blow to Everton’s chances, given his importance to their side.

However, Richarlison has spoken publicly about his desire to represent his country in Japan.

And it seems that Everton’s new manager is happy to sanction the trip.

The Athletic claims that Benitez wants to ensure that he goes into the campaign with positive relationships with his squad.

And with the Olympics meaning so much to Richarlison it has been decided that letting him play is the best course of action for the long-term.

Do Everton need a new forward?

Without Richarlison, Benitez’s choices up-front do look slightly limited though.

Everton no longer have Joshua King and while Moise Kean will return he is yet to prove himself in the Premier League.

It may, therefore, be that Benitez makes signing a new attacker one of his priorities this summer, as it would be extremely worrying for Everton if anything happened to Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the early part of the campaign, as things stand.
