Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson is reportedly on the radar of European club Benfica.
According to Calciomercato, Portuguese giants Benfica are interested in a move for the 28-year-old this summer.
But the 6ft 4in colossus has already voiced his desire to stay at Elland Road in a recent interview.
“I’ve always said that taking the step up to the Premier League is my dream and I want to do it with Leeds. It is up to Leeds if there is an interest in negotiating. Until then I am 110 percent Leeds. I’ll be there until the day they don’t want me,” he told Aftonbladet.
Jansson seems intent on getting Leeds over the line for promotion eventually, after they lost out in the Championship play-off semi-finals this season.
The Sweden international is still under contract with the Yorkshire giants until 2022 and there seems no reason for Leeds to entertain interest this summer.
It must be quite flattering to be on the radar of Champions League regulars Benfica, which just shows how talented the centre-back is.
Jansson is one of the most influential players at Leeds and it would be a mammoth blow if he was to exit this summer.
The defender is such a talent on the pitch and has the leadership qualities too that help his teammates.
He’s struck a formidable combination next to centre-back partner Liam Cooper and the duo should be able to continue that next season.
They have to be one of the best centre-back duos in the Championship and can be key in the promotion bid next year.
