Arsenal face a battle to hang onto one of their most promising young players. According to Sky Sports News, Bayern Munich are hot on the trail of Joe Willock.
Unai Emery has given Willock plenty of opportunities in pre-season and he has been one of the standout players on the tour to the United States. But his performances have not gone unnoticed.
Willock featured in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Bayern Munich – playing a key role in midfield – and now the German heavyweights want to sign him. The reigning Bundesliga champions could make a move for the 19-year-old midfield talent.
Arsenal are desperate to hold onto Willock, though. Emery rates the teenager highly and wants to use him in the first-team next season. Willock has played a handful of games for the Gunners but most of his chances have come in cup competitions.
Emery is ready to hand Willock more playing time in the Premier League. The England youth international has only played four top-flight games and an increase in playing time could help him decide against a Bundesliga move.
What should Willock do?
Willock has a big decision to make if Bayern Munich firm up their interest. On one hand, he is settled at Arsenal. On the other, he could look at the Jadon Sancho model; a youngster who thrived abroad after finding his game time limited in England.
But Willock’s situation is slightly different after an impressive pre-season. Emery knows the young midfielder is a top talent and he looks set for a first-team role next season. It might be worth Willock staying in North London and taking his place in Arsenal’s Premier League squad.
