Report: Bayern Munich consider Mauricio Pochettino as Niko Kovac replacement

Hasan Salihamdizic is pushing for Mauricio Pochettino.

Mauricio Pochettino is one of the names discussed as Bayern Munich ponder replacements for Niko Kovac.

According to German media outlet Sport1, Bayern Munich could part ways with increasingly unpopular manager Kovac. There are a few managers who could take his place and Pochettino is on the list.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is the favourite of Bayern Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. ten Hag is also said to be waiting for the call. Ralf Ragnick, formerly of Red Bull Leipzig, is an alternative option.

But Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic has his heart set on Pochettino. Salihamidzic has Pochettino’s number and will be pushing for the Argentine should Bayern part ways with Kovac.

Pochettino has enjoyed success at Tottenham Hotspur without winning any silverware yet. He guided Spurs to the Champions League final last season and his highest league finish was second.

Kovac wants to see out his Bayern contract until summer 2021. But if he is sacked before that date, Pochettino might be the new manager of the Bundesliga champions.

TBR’s view

Despite Pochettino being under pressure after Tottenham’s slow start to the season, he is surely the right man to take them forward. But this project at Bayern could tempt him.

At a time where his Spurs squad seems to be stagnating and declining, this would be an ideal opportunity to jump ship and remain a fan favourite in North London.
