Report: Barcelona would prefer Coutinho sale amid interest from Tottenham and Arsenal

According to a report from Goal, Tottenham target Phillipe Coutinho will be allowed to leave Barcelona on a permanent deal this summer.

Coutinho has spent the last year or so out on loan with Bayern Munich. However, the Brazilian is due back in Spain this summer and still has three years to run on his deal.

And it is believed that Barcelona wants to get shut of the former Liverpool man permanent, rather than settle for another loan move for their man.

Coutinho, who cost the Catalan giants around £142m (BBC) back in 2018, has failed to live up to the hype in La Liga after his stunning form at Anfield.

His move to Bayern has done little to get him back to his best either. The Brazilian is expected to move on this summer one way or another, with Spurs among a number of clubs interested.

Chelsea are also credited with an interest in Coutinho. However, with Barcelona looking to recoup their money, that could well put off both the Blues and Spurs this summer.

It’s hard to see Spurs spending so much money on landing Coutinho. Any move they would have been pursuing would surely have been a loan deal.

Barcelona are simply not going to let someone they paid near £150m for leave on the cheap. Even at half the fee, around £75m seems an awful lot for Spurs to pay out.

Coutinho has a lot to prove, too. Yes, he was good for Liverpool but his form since has been poor by his standards.

There’s also a reason why Barcelona want to get shut. That in itself should ensure both Spurs and Chelsea are wary when it comes to Coutinho.
