According to reports in Spain, Arsenal target Donyell Malen is now on Barcelona’s radar.
Barcelona could move for PSV Eindhoven forward Malen to replace Luis Suarez, AS reports. Barcelona have a number of options in mind and Malen’s good form in the Eredivisie has attracted some attention.
Arsenal had Malen on their books in the academy but let him go. The North London side are now regretting that decision as they reportedly line up a £50m move to bring him back (The Mirror).
Malen has been the standout performer for PSV this season. With 16 goals and six assists in just 18 matches, the Netherlands international is considered to be one of Europe’s top young talents.
The 20-year-old can play as a striker or on the wing, prompting Arsenal and Barcelona to take a closer look. But Barcelona’s interest could scupper Unai Emery’s January transfer plans.
Malen’s potential Arsenal return highlights their 2017 error in letting him leave for a tiny fee. But with his form and his potential, the youngster might well justify the £50m price tag now.
Barcelona will clearly be a major obstacle in this transfer tussle – the Spanish giants are an attractive proposition for a young striker. However, Barcelona are looking at a number of players and this could open the door for the Gunners to pounce.
