Barcelona are monitoring Mikel Arteta in the light of the brilliant job he is doing at Arsenal in case they decide to replace Xavi at Camp Nou, according to a report from Sport.

Arteta is rightfully receiving plaudits from all directions right now. The Gunners top the Premier League table. And they are playing some of the best football in the division this season.

Obviously, that has not always been the case for Arteta at the Emirates. There have been times where, from the outside, it has seemed that he may be on the brink of losing his job. However, his doubters have been emphatically silenced.

Sport reports that Barcelona remain convinced that Xavi is the right man. The club legend has not had the easiest time since returning as manager. But the Catalan giants are not looking to make an immediate change.

Nevertheless, Sport claims that they are monitoring Arteta.

It is noted that Arteta has no intention of leaving Arsenal anytime soon.

Arteta will likely view Barcelona’s reported interest in him as a further sign that Arsenal are moving in the right direction. The Gunners are flying at a rapid rate.

He began his professional career at Barca. And it would be a job which would be impossible for many to turn down.

However, it is hard to see Arteta going anywhere in the near future. Everyone at Arsenal is right behind him right now.

Meanwhile, there have not been too many bosses who have left Barcelona with higher stock than when they were appointed. And Xavi is seemingly going that way, too.

Much could change by the time Barca are looking for their next manager. But they will surely need it to if they hope to convince Arteta to walk away from what he has at Arsenal.
