Liverpool have been given a glimmer of hope as they look to keep hold of Gini Wijnaldum, with Sky Sports claiming Barcelona may well pull out of  a deal to land the Dutchman.

Sky claim that the Catalan giants may well look to save some money and simply promote youngster Moriba into the first-team picture.

Wijnaldum has been linked with a move to Barcelona for some time now. It has been widely accepted by many that he will leave Anfield, with a reunion with Ronald Koeman said to be on the cards at the Nou Camp.

But Sky are now suggesting that Barca could well keep their hands in their pockets. The emergence of the 18-year-old Moriba has said to have caught the eye of those inside the Spanish club. Wijnaldum, then, might find himself in a bit of a conundrum.

Liverpool are said to be desperate to keep him. On the other hand, the likes of Chelsea and Inter Milan are also said to be keen.

TBR View: A strange twist of fate here for Wijnaldum who now faces a big call

Most Liverpool fans would probably accept Wijnaldum staying in the end. It’s not like he’s thrown his toys out of the pram or anything like that.

But if Barcelona do pull out, then surely he’s best staying put in Liverpool? Moves to Chelsea and Inter are hardly the most appealing given his status at Anfield.

It’s certainly a big call for Wijnaldum this. Barcelona, meanwhile, might just be playing the sensible card for once it seems.
