Report: Barcelona make enquiry to sign Manchester City star, after signing Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero

Barcelona have made an enquiry to sign Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Romano has claimed that Barcelona are now looking to sign a third Man City player. Gundogan is said to be keen on the move.

Gundogan, 30, has been sensational for Manchester City over the past 12 months. Not only has he been excellent in Pep Guardiola’s midfield, but he has been incredibly efficient in front of goal. The Germany international has scored a whopping 17 goals in 46 games, laying on five assists.

Barcelona have already signed Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero from Manchester City, and have also been linked with Aymeric Laporte. Now, they have made an enquiry for Gundogan. That is, according to Romano, who states that Barcelona want the three-time Premier League winner.

“The rumours are true. With Gundogan, Barcelona are interested. They are looking for a midfielder and have asked the agents of Gundogan about this possibility. They were enquiring about Gundogan. There is no agreement, it is only Barcelona talking with Gundogan’s agents. Gundogan is on the list.”

Manchester City must keep Gundogan away from Barcelona’s clutches

While he has entered his thirties, Gundogan is crucial to Manchester City. He is the perfect midfielder for Pep Guardiola’s side. The Germany ace is excellent in the final third and adding goals to this all-conquering City side, but he is just as good transitionally and in terms of work rate.

Barcelona, who finished third in La Liga last season, is likely to prove tempting and The Sun claim that Manchester City want him to sign a new deal – but that he is delaying a new contract. Manchester City have got to keep him but it seems as though, Gundogan could have his head turned this summer.
