Barcelona are reportedly keen on a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth. Reports began emerging in Spain this week that the Argentine might be on the Catalan club’s radar and now, as reported by The Mirror, that does appear to be the case.
It is suggested that Foyth has been offered to clubs around Europe and that Barcelona are keen, with the likes of Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo set to be moved on by the Blaugrana.
Foyth was a popular player for former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who was personally very involved in the reported (BBC) £8 million transfer of the defender from Estudiantes. Indeed, Football.London reported in the summer that Pochettino views Foyth as ‘one of the best young central defenders in Europe’.

However, Jose Mourinho has proved less of a fan. The Argentine has not featured for the club since December, the Portuguese boss preferring both Japhet Tanganga and Eric Dier at the back. Even Malachi Fagan-Walcott appears to have usurped the 22-year-old Albiceleste international.
Indeed, Foyth has even admitted to TNT in Argentina recently that a move away from Tottenham might be ‘the best thing’ for him in the next transfer window.
“You always want to play to feel like a player and feel good. It isn’t easy not to play either. But I don’t know, we have to wait now for the transfer window to open.
“If I am going to have opportunities here, I will be very comfortable. And if they won’t count on me, the best thing will be to find another club.”
So Barcelona’s interest is very timely. Tottenham are also said to be keen on several Barcelona players. As reported by The Telegraph, the two clubs have been in contact regarding potential swap options with the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Samuel Umtiti, Nelson Semedo all seemingly on Tottenham’s radar.
Foyth could easily be included among these discussions if Barcelona are keen, allowing Mourinho to bring in a player he appreciates more and for a saving of millions.
