Report: Barcelona join Newcastle in race for Manchester United star, will cost less than £10m

The Sun claim Barcelona are considering a shock move to sign Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic – with Newcastle recently linked.

Matic, 33, has been in and out of the United side this season. Starting just three of United’s eight Premier League matches throughout the 21-22 term.

The experienced Serb is in the last 18 months of his current contract – but the chances are that if a club comes in for Matic, he will be sold.

90Min recently claim that Matic had been offered to Newcastle in the summer, along with Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones – and are still options.

The Toon certainly need midfielders. Not only do they lack depth in the middle of the park, but they also lack quality.

Many pinpointed the midfield as a problem area for Newcastle on Sunday, during their 3-2 defeat to Tottenham. Jonjo Shelvey was sent off.

The Sun now claim that Barcelona could rival Newcastle to sign Matic – who is currently earning £120,000 (Spotrac) – and will cost less than £10million.

Why Newcastle have got to sign Matic, ahead of Barcelona…

If Newcastle are going to be signing plenty of attacking players, then they need a platform for the attacking players to perform their magic.

The likes of Philippe Coutinho, Aaron Ramsey and plenty more have been linked, to combine with Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin.

They need a man to control the tempo, sit deep and screen the back four and always be available for a pass. Matic is the perfect signing.
