Tottenham Hotspur may face a battle with Barcelona should they decide to pursue Roberto Martinez, with ESPN reporting that the Belgium boss is under consideration at the Nou Camp.

The Athletic reported last week that there were four candidates for the post. Along with Erik ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick and Graham Potter, The Athletic suggested that Martinez was also on their radar.

Of course, appointing Martinez is not going to be an easy task for Spurs.

The Spaniard is gearing up for the European Championships. It would certainly be a huge shock if he decided to leave his post before the tournament.

And it seems that Tottenham’s task may be about to get even tougher – should they decide they want Martinez.

ESPN has now reported that the former Wigan boss is on Barca’s radar. It is claimed that the Catalan giants are set to make a decision on Ronald Koeman’s future in the coming days.

It proved to be a disappointing time for the Dutchman – who actually succeeded Martinez at Everton – with Barcelona finishing third in the table.

Spurs given another reason to look elsewhere amid Martinez interest

It will do Tottenham no favours if their manager search continues into the coming weeks.

Of course, the priority has to be to get the right manager. Spurs find themselves at a crucial moment that could determine whether they can elevate themselves back into the title discussion, or stagnate further.

Martinez has done some excellent work in the Premier League and with Belgium.

But whether he is worth waiting for is extremely debatable.

It already looked a huge gamble to wait until after the Euros to appoint their next boss.

But it now seems even riskier with Barcelona potentially sniffing around Martinez.
