Report: Barcelona eye Liverpool star as potential Lionel Messi replacement

Barcelona are weighing up a move to sign Liverpool star Sadio Mane should Lionel Messi choose to leave the Nou Camp this summer, according to Sport via TMW.

If new boss Ronald Koeman is serious about adding the Senegalese flyer to his ranks he will have to part with £107 million.

Messi has been the hot topic in world football this past week with plenty of suggestions that he could choose to walk away from the club.

Manchester City, PSG and Inter Milan have all been quoted as interested parties in the race to land the sensational 33-year-old (Daily Mail).

Although the Argentine could still choose to stay at Barca, it would seem Koeman is eyeing up a contingency plan and that’s led him to the Liverpool wizard.

Mane scored 22 goals from 47 games in all competitions last season as the Reds lifted their first Premier League title.

The 28-year-old has been magnificent since arriving from Southampton in 2016 for £34 million and is now viewed as one of the club’s star players.

Mane has a contract at Anfield until 2023 and Liverpool would dearly love him to sign an extension to his existing contract.

It is thought that Liverpool have offered Mane a £220,000-a-week deal, although the Senegal performer is unwilling to sign it at the moment (Daily Mail).

Right now Mane earns £100,000-a-week and his departure would certainly represent a massive blow to Klopp and to Liverpool.

He has epitomised everything good about Klopp’s team, helping Liverpool to become Premier League, European and World champions.

Mane has smashed 81 goals in 170 appearances and has also registered 34 assists in the process.

He is part of a three-pronged attack alongside Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah and quite simply, Liverpool must do all they can to keep hold of him.
