Barcelona are reportedly considering a move for Arsenal’s top scorer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Mundo Deportivo has claimed that the Spanish giants see the Gunners striker as a replacement for the injured Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan has had surgery on a knee injury that will keep him out of action for around six weeks. His contract expires in the summer of 2021 and by that point, it could be time for him to move on. Barcelona reportedly see Aubameyang as the perfect replacement for Suarez and you can see why.
The Gabonese striker has been lethal since his move to Arsenal. He has scored 57 goals in just 91 appearances for the club and already has 14 league goals this season. The 30-year-old is deadly in the box and will score goals no matter where he is playing his football.
Aubameyang’s contract at Arsenal expires at the same time as Suarez’s does at Barcelona. The Arsenal striker is reportedly desperate to play in the Champions League once again and the Gunners cannot currently offer him that.
They are sat 10th in the Premier League and look very unlikely to finish in the top four this season. The club could qualify by winning the Europa League but there is some very strong competition for that title this season.
Barcelona, on the other hand, come with a guarantee of Champions League football. The Catalan club is seen by many as the pinnacle of world football and it would surely be a tempting move for Aubameyang as he enters the twilight of his career.
