Manchester City could well end up keeping Sergio Aguero after reports from Spain claimed Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman would rather sign Memphis Depay instead.

Sport makes the claim that Koeman wants the Dutch winger at the Nou Camp ahead of Aguero, who is being tipped for a move away from City this summer with no new deal agreed.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the Argentinian striker. However, as yet, no deal has been agreed for Aguero to either stay in Manchester or move abroad.

But this latest update from Sport could well put Aguero’s future back into the hands of City. Sources close to City believe Aguero is keen to stay in England but would like his contract to reflect his importance to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Aguero came off the bench last night as City saw off Southampton at The Etihad. Barcelona, meanwhile, have a new president and have been linked with a host of players, including Liverpool midfielder, Gini Wijnaldum.

TBR View: City should keep Aguero because who is better at the moment?

The big issue for City when it comes to Aguero, is who out there is going to come in and be any better? Apart from the obvious names like Haaland and Mbappe, there aren’t many.

Of course, if a Haaland type was signed then yes, City might move Aguero on.

But for now, especially with Barcelona seemingly messing about a bit, City should do all they can to tie down Aguero and let him continue to bang in the goals.
