Atletico Madrid want a new right-back this summer and have several options in mind. According to Spanish media outlet AS, Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier is one their back-up options.
Nelson Semedo, the Barcelona right-back, is Atletico Madrid’s top target this summer. They will press ahead with their attempts to sign the Portuguese full-back.
Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier is another target for Atletico Madrid. The attack-minded Belgian is an alternative option to Semedo this summer.
If Atletico Madrid fail to land either Semedo or Meunier, their third-choice target is Trippier. Elseid Hysaj (Napoli and Albania right-back) and Brazilian veteran Dani Alves are two other options.
Trippier could be on his way out of Spurs this summer as Mauricio Pochettino considers his options at full-back. Trippier, Danny Rose and Serge Aurier could all be shown the exit door (as per The Daily Mail).
Atletico Madrid want to sign the England international. But they will only make their move if other options fail to materialise.
Should Tottenham get rid of Trippier?
This is probably the right time to get rid of Trippier. The 28-year-old will only lose value after this summer and Pochettino appears to have grown fed up with his defensive frailties.
If Trippier and Aurier both leave, Tottenham need a new right-back this summer. But with Aaron Wan-Bissaka joining Manchester United and Max Aarons committing his future to Norwich City, their options are swiftly running out.
