Leeds United will have to see off competition from Atletico Madrid if they hope to sign Rodrigo De Paul this summer, with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that Diego Simeone wants the Udinese star.
Calciomercato reported last month that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are keen on De Paul heading into the summer.
With the Whites on the verge of securing a second consecutive season in the Premier League, Victor Orta can perhaps start to set his sights on some of the club’s marquee targets.
However, if De Paul is one, they are set to face some strong competition. Calciomercato reported that runaway Serie A leaders Inter Milan are also monitoring the 26-year-old.
Tuttomercatoweb also suggests that the Nerazzurri want De Paul. But they also state that Atleti are back in the running.
Like Inter, Atletico lead their league. Their lead however, is a lot more precarious. Simeone’s men are just one point clear of Barcelona in La Liga.
If Leeds had doubts about meeting De Paul’s asking price last year, the presence of Inter and Atletico in the race this time around is unlikely to do them any favours.
Udinese know that they should be able to demand a huge fee for their talisman.
That may leave Leeds as underdogs in the race. But having made several statements in the market since promotion, it would surely also be foolish to rule the Whites out.
