According to Spanish outlet AS, Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira will finally arrive at Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan.
The Uruguayan international has fallen down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order and is on a shortlist of players that could leave this summer.
Arteta will still have a few signing of his own in mind and offloading players looks paramount to those plans.
The 24-year-old signed for Arsenal in 2018 from Sampdoria costing the Gunners for £26 million (BBC).
During his two years at the club, he has played 89 games, scoring four goals and registering six assists.
Ultimately Torreira has struggled with injury problems and with consistency during his time at the club and that’s cost him a chance to impress Arteta.
The dynamic midfielder has been courted throughout the transfer window by a number of clubs, but Atletico look to have won the race.
Interestingly, the £75,000-a-week player heading to the Wanda Metropolitano might help Arteta complete his own recruitment plans.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Thomas Partey and Torreira might be viewed as a replacement ahead of his potential departure.
Torreira did make 39 appearances in all competitions last season but he failed to start a game after the restart.
The midfielder hasn’t featured in the first-team this season so far, however, and his days at Arsenal look numbered.
TBR View – Offloading to Atletico looks a match made in heaven
If Torreira joins Atletico it seems likely that a clause will be inserted to make it permanent.
With that in mind, it could represent the perfect opportunity for Arsenal to pounce on Partey.
The Ghana midfielder is high on Arteta’s list of targets before the window closes and his signing could be a gamechanger.
Helping Atletico land a replacement looks ideal for the Gunners at this stage.
