Report: Atletico Madrid plotting move for Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette
Arsenal are preparing themselves for a bid from Atletico Madrid for experienced striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to reports.
Calciomercato claim that Atletico are readying a bid for the French striker, as they look to finally land Lacazette 12 months on from showing initial interest.
Lacazette is on a list of players the Gunners are looking to move on this summer. His high wages, thought to be just shy of £200k-a-week, are taking a big chunk out of the budget.
And with only a year to run on his current deal, Arsenal are now open to offers for Lacazette.
Goal claim that Atletico’s opening bid could be around the £13m mark. That would be a hefty loss on a player who cost over £45m back in 2017.
Despite being a key member of the squad under Arteta, the Spanish coach is thought to be open to Lacazette going. The likes of Folarin Balogun are now in the first-team, while Gabi Martinelli is also expected to push on.
Arteta, along with Edu, is currently overseeing a major overhaul this summer. Atletico, it seems, are looking to capitalise on that overhaul.
Time to go?
Lacazette’s future has been the subject of debate for some time now and it’s looking more likely that he leaves.
He’s a good striker. But his record isn’t that of someone you pay shy of £50m for. Arsenal needed more over the years from the former Lyon man. Sadly, he’s just not quite delivered.
Getting some cash for Lacazette would be a bonus for Arsenal. So while £13m doesn’t sound a lot, when you take into account the wages, it’s a fair saving for the club.
