Report: Atletico Madrid in contact with Arsenal star's representatives

Atletico Madrid appear to have started working on a move for Alexandre Lacazette with Le 10 Sport in France reporting that they are already in contact with his representatives.

What’s the story?

Lacazette looks to be edging towards the Emirates exit. As noted by Le 10 Sport, his deal at Arsenal expires at the end of the campaign.

He has, so far, made just one Premier League appearance for Mikel Arteta’s men this season. And he has been an unused substitute for their last two top-flight games.

Le 10 Sport reports that contract talks are not moving in the right direction. And the chances of him leaving are said to be high.

That appears to have alerted Atleti. The report notes that Diego Simeone’s men are in contact with his representatives.

It is suggested that signing the Frenchman is seen as one of the priorities for Atletico.

Time for Lacazette to move on from Arsenal as Atletico Madrid set the wheels in motion

Lacazette has been a decent signing for Arsenal. His overall record is fairly good, with 66 goals and 28 assists coming in 172 games.

However, the 30-year-old has become more of a peripheral figure in more recent times.

There is still a chance that Arsenal could need him a lot this season. Arteta does not have the depth up front to leave him out of his plans altogether.

And obviously, interest from La Liga’s title-winners highlights the quality he still has.

But the time looks to be right for Arsenal and Lacazette to part. He earns £182,000-a-week in North London. That is simply too much to spend on a backup option.

Perhaps they will try to seal a January deal for Lacazette to ensure they get some sort of fee. But Arsenal will also be aware that he can agree a pre-contract deal for the summer as soon as the winter window opens.
