TBR View: Silva sale to Atletico could boost transfer funds and balance the squad

We live in a time of uncertainty, created by the Coronavirus pandemic. Many clubs are struggling financially, and the Citizens are no exception.

Manchester City recorded a £126m net loss for the 2019/2020 season, largely thanks to Covid-19. Revenue dropped 11% whilst Matchday and broadcasting incomes also fell.

However, with super-rich owners, it’s easy to wave off such issues. Sales can help offset any financial burdens caused by the deadly disease.

Meanwhile, the squad remains saturated and sales are an increasing likelihood. The likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Riyadh Mahrez were key players in attack for Guardiola last season.

It caused Silva to play a deeper midfield role, causing him to have less of an impact in the final third. With the ace no longer seen as a crucial cog in attack, a sale makes sense.

The transfer interest from Atletico in Silva presents City with the opportunity to sell the ace and balance the financial books. It will also help make space for new arrivals in what is an already saturated City squad.
