Report: Atletico considered Kean before Cunha transfer
Atletico Madrid considered a move for Everton ace Moise Kean before signing Matheus Cunha, according to Fabrizio Romano.
What’s the story?
The Brazilian has now officially completed his transfer from Hertha Berlin to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
Cunha has joined the Spanish champions on a five-year contract for a fee believed to be €26m (£22m). Hertha Berlin will also earn 10% of a future sale of the 23-year-old.
Kean has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park all summer long.
He was initially a target for Paris Saint Germain, however, the French side could not meet Everton’s demands of £43m.
He was then offered to Inter Milan as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku by super-agent Mina Raiola.
But, then it was claimed at the start of this month Rafa Benitez wants to keep the 21-year-old on Merseyside.
Kean is a valuable asset for Everton amid Atletico links
It may look as if after his red card this week the Blues should sell the striker.
But, Kean remains a valuable asset for Everton amid links with Atletico.
This transfer window has shown there is substantial interest from clubs in the frontman.
But, one injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin could prove disastrous. As a result, keeping the Italian at Goodison Park is of the highest priority.
And fed properly, he can be a lethal finisher as he showed last season.
Alongside some very good players, Kean scored 19 times across all competitions.
The only problem is, does the ace want to play for Everton? If he feels like he needs a new challenge, keeping him could be a mistake. Nevertheless, he remains an important figure.
