Aston Villa youngster Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is a deadline day loan target for Derby County, according to a report on The Sun’s live transfer blog (31/1; 09:32).
The Rams are 10 points adrift of the play-off places heading into the final 17 games of the season. The situation arguably looks bleak for this term.
But Villa showed last season how a team can come back from being some way behind to ultimately secure a top six spot.
And it appears that Phillip Cocu is looking to the Villans as he targets bolstering his squad during the final hours of the window.
According to The Sun’s live transfer blog (31/1; 09:32), the Rams want Hepburn-Murphy on loan until the summer.
Hepburn-Murphy has spent the first-half of the season on loan at Tranmere Rovers.
The 21-year-old has scored four goals in 17 appearances in League One. But the report suggests that Derby are optimistic that he can make the step up.
It should be noted that the youngster has started just eight games in the league. So his goalscoring record is much better than it would initially look on paper.
Nevertheless, it would arguably not be a huge surprise if some Derby fans had their reservations.
Hepburn-Murphy barely featured for Villa in the Championship, and he is still yet to score for his parent club in any competition.
But Derby are reportedly confident that he has the ability to make an impact in the second tier. So perhaps, a move may prove to be inspired.
