Aston Villa’s opening bid for Ollie Watkins is set to be worth £18 million, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
It would perhaps be little surprise to see Watkins leave for a Premier League club this summer. The forward was outstanding as Brentford came desperately close to sealing promotion last season.

The Daily Mail suggests that the Villans are one of the sides keen on Watkins, and adds that the 24-year-old is interested in working with Dean Smith having played under him with the Bees.
And Villa are about to confirm their interest with an opening bid for the striker. Unfortunately however, it appears that it is unlikely to be accepted.

According to the Mail, Villa will offer £18 million. However, Brentford value Watkins at £25 million.
TBR View: Opening offer will give Villa fans hope
Villa’s opening bid looks set to be knocked back. However, the supporters will surely take plenty of encouragement from the offer.
The two clubs are already not a million miles apart. So it may not be a surprise if they do manage to reach an agreement at some stage down the line.
Of course, that does not necessarily mean that Villa will be the only team in the running. But they appear to have a trump card with Watkins reportedly keen to join the club.
There is clearly more work to do. But there appear to be reasons for optimism for Villa supporters.
