Aston Villa have discovered they would have to pay Danny Drinkwater’s weekly wages in full if they wanted to secure a loan deal for the midfielder (The Sun).
The 29-year-old is now back at Stamford Bridge having endured a miserable stint at Burnley.
It is thought that Villa have looked into taking Drinkwater on a short-term deal, with John McGinn out injured for the foreseeable.

Drinkwater’s career has taken a nosedive since joining the Blues from Leicester City in 2017.
Having been a crucial player in the unlikely 2015/16 title-winning season for the Foxes, Drinkwater has now become a benchwarmer in west London.
Chelsea are willing to let him leave on loan for the second half of 2019/20, but would expect suitors to agree to pay his £110,000-a-week wages without help from them.
TBR’s view – Risky business
Villa successfully signing Drinkwater would easily see him become the club’s highest earner.

At the moment, Tom Heaton takes home the most money at Villa Park on £42,000-a-week according to Spotrac.
Whether Villa would be willing and able to pay Drinkwater £110,000-a-week remains to be seen – certainly, there would be huge expectation on him to perform with such a financial outlay.
