Steven Gerrard is looking to sign Leon King for Aston Villa, with Birmingham Live reporting that the Rangers youngster could leave Ibrox for just £200,000.

The 17-year-old has long been considered one of the most exciting talents coming through with the Scottish Premiership champions.

He made his league debut for the Rangers first-team late last season, coming on for the final moments in a win over Livingston.

Several Premier League sides are tracking the teenager. Birmingham Live reports that Manchester United, Newcastle and Leicester City all want the defender.

But obviously, Villa may feel that they have a trump card in the race. Gerrard will know King very well from his time as Rangers boss.

And Birmingham Live suggests that he could cost the Villans just over £200,000.

Gerrard risks angering Rangers fans further should he take Leon King to Aston Villa

Of course, it would appear that Rangers may face an uphill battle keeping King at Ibrox anyway. He looks set to have several fantastic opportunities on the table.

But that will not change the fact that many Gers supporters will likely feel somewhat betrayed should Gerrard come back and take talent from his former club.

The manner of his departure did not sit well with many, it seems. There was a lot of anger over Gerrard deeming the Villa job to be a step up in his career.

So going on and signing King will disappoint plenty of Rangers fans.

For Villa, it could be a real coup. And having Gerrard at their club must give them an advantage in the battle ahead.
