Aston Villa are interested in signing Middlesbrough pair Darren Randolph and Britt Assombalonga, according to a report from TEAMtalk.
The pressure on Dean Smith this month has increased with both Tom Heaton and Wesley being ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury.
The Villans already needed a strong window after being dragged into the relegation battle in the Premier League. And the double injury blow has only added to Smith’s to-do list.
TEAMtalk reports that he may look to the Riverside Stadium for signings at both ends of the pitch, with Randolph and Assombalonga on his radar.
It is suggested that bids close to £10 million will be enough for Assombalonga, while Villa are battling West Ham for Randolph’s signature.
TBR View – Villa fans may be underwhelmed
After a busy summer, it would not be a surprise to see Villa not make too many signings this month. So the players they do bring in are going to be under pressure to make an impact.
Randolph is a good goalkeeper and boasts Premier League experience. He could be a shrewd signing given that he has been a very good addition for Boro.
The interest in Assombalonga is intriguing. He had scored 43 league goals across the previous three campaigns. But he is going to need a very good run of form during the remaining months of the season to achieve a similar tally this time around.
He has scored six times in 20 Championship games. So it may be deemed a gamble to spend around £10 million on bringing Assombalonga to Villa Park this month.
