Aston Villa have made Mauricio Pochettino their first choice to replace Steven Gerrard after his sacking last night.
Gerrard paid with his job after Villa went down 3-0 against Fulham at Craven Cottage, continuing a disappointing season.
The Telegraph report that there is interest in Thomas Frank from Villa Park and the club have poached the Bees’ manager in the not too distant past when they got Dean Smith.
But they say that Pochettino is the top pick among the Villa hierarchy and it seems likely their pursuit will now intensify.

Villa make Pochettino first choice
Pochettino did fantastic work in the Premier League with Southampton and Tottenham, transforming their squads and making them exciting, high pressing teams.
That is likely to be the basis of Villa’s interest, as that kind of work is exactly what they need after Villa’s dour football under Gerrard.
But Pochettino’s last job, at Paris Saint-Germain, did go sour and he was booed by their fans in April, before he was let go at the end of last season.
Some may say that is no indicator of his suitability for Villa, because so far no manager has been able to get PSG under control for too long.
The squad he had there was packed with talent but was the opposite of the young, hungry players he usually likes to work with.
It remains to be seen whether Villa can tempt Pochettino or whether they have to look at other options, and it is likely the situation will become clearer in the coming days.
