Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing goalkeeper Mattia Perin this summer from Italian heavyweights Juventus.

According to Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on his official website, the Midlands club are keen on landing the 26-year-old.

It is understood that he’s failed to complete a move away to Benfica already this summer, but there is now interest from Dean Smith’s side.

The report explains that Juventus’ sporting director Fabio Paratici has already travelled to England to have discussions about the shot-stopper.

Villa have been extremely busy already this summer and have now turned their attention to Serie A if reports are to be believed.

Perin was the number two option at Juventus last season and he kept five clean sheets in his nine appearances, but he may now have slipped down the pecking order following the return of Gianluigi Buffon.

He played backup to Wojciech Szczesny last season and a shoulder injury also disrupted him the second half of the campaign.

TBR’s View:

Aside from potential injury problems, Perin would be an eye-catching signing for Villa and potentially the pick of the goalkeepers the club have been linked to already this summer.

He should be entering the peak years of his career and is too good to be sat on the sidelines.

His consistent displays at Italian club Genoa earned him a star-studded move to Juventus, but it’s not quite worked out for him.

Perin kept 46 clean sheets in 151 games for Genoa and is confident with the ball at his feet, while he commands his box well too.
