Aston Villa are planning to make a £30 million bid for Odsonne Edouard, with The Sun reporting that the Celtic striker is Dean Smith’s first-choice striker target this summer.
Edouard has been linked with the Villans for a little while. The Sun reported at the start of the month that the club had made an enquiry for the Frenchman.
It was suggested that the Hoops had snubbed Villa’s approach on that occasion. But that has seemingly not deterred the Premier League side from monitoring the 22-year-old.
The Sun has now suggested that the Villans plan to make a £30 million bid for the forward. The report notes that Arsenal could drop out of the race due to his asking price, but there is also interest from Leicester City and Crystal Palace.
The Sun also hints that Villa may struggle to convince Edouard to make a move. However, they will reportedly be able to offer the former Paris Saint-Germain youngster a major contract.
TBR View: Edouard would be an outstanding signing for Villa
It does appear that Villa face an uphill task trying to sign Edouard. He has arguably shown few signs of unhappiness at Celtic. And as The Sun’s report notes, he is attracting a lot of interest.
But if they could get a deal done, it could be an outstanding piece of business.
The forward scored 28 goals last season. And he already has four at the start of this campaign.
His record for the Bhoys is remarkable. And following a season in which Villa’s top goalscorer ended the year with eight strikes, he could be an inspired addition – if they do manage to lure him away from Parkhead.
