Aston Villa will still press ahead with their move for Werder Bremen forward, Milot Rashica, despite the impending signing of Arsenal goalkeeper, Emi Martinez.
The move into the market to sign Martinez comes as Dean Smith looks to get his hands on a regular and proven number one. Martinez, then, appears to be that man given his exploits with Arsenal over the last six months.
However, despite spending big on a ‘keeper, the Birmingham Mail claims that a move for Rashica is still alive and that the proposed deal for Martinez has been stuctured in a way to allow Villa to continue their pursuit of the 25-cap Kosovan star.
Rashica shot to prominence last season with Bremen, scoring 11 goals despite a poor season for the club in general. The Villans have recently completed a deal for Ollie Watkins, as Smith looks to add goals to his team ahead of the new season.
Smith is getting the backing but he has to deliver now – TBR View
The one thing the Villa manager won’t be able to do after these signings go through is moan that he hasn’t had the backing of his board.
Once again, Smith will have been given massive funds to invest in the first XI. And while the spending is big, this time it seems to have been done in the right manner, with Martinez and Rashica players who can fill positions that require it.
The Villa boss, then, will be hoping for his new signings to pay off as he looks to avoid another relegation scrap.
