Reported Aston Villa target Said Benrahma looks set to hand Brentford a significant boost ahead of the January transfer window, with The Telegraph suggesting that he plans to stay at Griffin Park for the rest of the season.

Benrahma is impressing once again this term. He has scored three goals and provided five assists for the Bees, who sit sixth in the Championship after drawing with league leaders West Brom at the weekend.

He is going to have to go some way to eclipse his remarkable tallies from last season however, with 10 goals and 14 assists coming in the second tier.

The Telegraph reports that Aston Villa wanted the Algerian in the summer. And indeed, Sky Sports has recently claimed that Dean Smith remains keen on landing the £20 million-rated 24-year-old in the winter window.

However, The Telegraph suggests that Benrahma is looking set to stay with Thomas Frank’s side. It is claimed that he will assess his future in the summer.

TBR View – Blow for Villa

January is looking set to be a crucial month for the Villans. It is not clear how much Smith will have to spend after a significant overhaul in the summer. But he may well deem it to be a blow that Benrahma looks set to go nowhere.

He is definitely one of the most exciting players in the Championship. And it looks to be a matter of time before he is playing at the highest level.

But any side hoping to offer Benrahma that chance from next month may now have to look at breaking the bank to stand a chance.
