Aston Villa haven’t enjoyed the easiest start to the season, and currently sit just outside the relegation zone.

Steven Gerrard had his first summer transfer window in charge of the Villains, and brought in a number of new signings.

A report from Media Foot Marseille suggests the Boubacar Kamara was convinced by ‘Gerrard’s project’ to join the club.

The report suggests that Kamara was offered nearly £6m more a year to sign for Villa, and that convinced the Frenchman to move.

However, Gerrard’s visit to Marseille to convince Kamara to move to the Premier League also played a part.

Media Foot Marseille go on to say that given Villa’s poor start to the season, he ‘might start to regret his choice’.

Kamara convinced by Gerrard’s project

Kamara is primarily a defensive midfielder, and has started every game for Gerrard this season.

There was a suggestion that Kamara’s arrival might unleash new club captain John McGinn, however neither have started the season brilliantly.

Aston Villa have yet to keep a clean sheet with Kamara in the team.

However, it was clear that there was an improvement in their last outing against Manchester City.

Their deadline day signing of Leander Dendoncker from Wolves could put additional pressure on Kamara.

Kamara broke into the France squad for their Nations League matches in June.

Didier Deschamps has a wealth of talent to choose from in holding midfield.

Kamara is competing for a spot in the squad with N’Golo Kante and Real Madrid’s new signing Aurelien Tchouameni.

The 22-year-old will be hoping he stays in contention for this month’s internationals ahead of November’s World Cup.

Kamara may need further convincing from Gerrard that his project is going as expected.

His manager will be hoping those regrets don’t start to creep in if things don’t turn around for Villa soon.
